The cold and snow was just brutal this winter.
When I first moved to the area 15 years ago, I had never seen so much snow, I used to call my mother daily that first year crying "Mom he told me this is NY but I think he lied and it really is Alaska!!"
It snowed for 31 days straight that year and I thought if I could survive that I could survive any winter, but this year with temps even colder than Alaska most days here in NY, I almost gave up many times.
Was all of this really worth it??? I wasn't sure I even wanted to continue this journey, but then tragedy struck and reminded me of just how important nourishing our bodies and building our immune systems really are.
On Christmas Eve my mother came down with the flu and it was such a severe strain that required hospitalization., I had told her numerous times how important eating whole natural foods were. I even shared as much as I could with her on my visits. She enjoyed all of the goodies I sent but still continued to eat many of the processed and 'fake' foods she was used to. Her immune system just couldn't fight such a severe strain of the flu...
By Christmas Day she couldn't even talk anymore and we were only able to text...She kept insisting she would be ok but somehow thru God's Grace, I knew this was worse than she thought and I rushed to leave the farm to go see her...By the time I arrived at the hospital she was unconscious and less than 14 hours later she was gone. As if that wasn't heartbreaking enough, they had no sooner wheeled her body out of that ICU room before my Pop was being wheeled into the same ICU room and bed with the same symptoms! I felt like I was in a bad dream or some kind of horror film, could this really be happening??? It was and did... My pop died three days later.. My heart was torn in two. They were only 66 and 68. Grief overwhelmed me, but God's Grace held me and my siblings up to endure such tragedy. Upon returning home, although the temps outside were colder than Alaska, and the snow was waist high I trudged out to the barn twice every day trying my best not to complain, remembering why 'all natural food' is so important.
It has been 8 years now, of my healthy eating, and I have not needed to see a Dr. once since,
Now I am not saying that if you eat healthy you will never get sick. We all come into contact with germs and diseases. But I am saying that if you nourish your bodies properly, your bodies own immune system will be strong and have the ability to fight those germs.
Know what you eat and where it comes from, your life is worth it. Yes eating healthy is more expensive and not always easy to do, but You ARE worth it!
Wish I could have convinced my mother and pop just how important it is.
Plant a garden, get friendly with a local farmer, if you can't afford it, most small farms need help with chores, see if they will barter food for chores. I know I do. My motto has always been 'share the health not the wealth' and one of the main reasons why I try my best to keep. our prices low enough for the average person to afford.
Please keep my family and farm in your prayers, that we may be able to continue to feed all those God sends to us and that our broken hearts may mend.
love, peace,and blessings
